What's exciting in your desk drawer?
Monday, August 18, 2008  by Cindy Droog

I moved into a new cubicle a few weeks ago, and lo and behold, I found a bra that I'd been missing!

Now, I realize what that must sound like, but I assure you, it is completely innocent.

As a working mom with two kids under two, I simply have no time to shop. So, I snuck this piece of lingerie into my work bag, so I had with me the exact SKU and manufacturer's style code from the label. I intended to call a few stores to see if they still carried it before wasting a few hours driving around town with the lil' guys in tow.

I never had time to make the calls, and the bra ended up shoved in the bottom of a desk drawer for a month. Oops! I know that a normal person would have written this information down at home, rather than choosing to bring the item into the office. Thankfully, I've never claimed to be normal.

I'm also thankful that I'm not the only busy mom at Amway Global with such issues. Just this morning, a great friend (also a working mom) in my department got dressed in a darkened room, and didn't realize until she got here that she'd worn a green bra under a white shirt.

I told her, "C'est la vie. All the teenage girls are dressing like that anyway - you look hot!"

Still, the subject did peak my curiosity: Parents - What's the weirdest thing in your desk drawer? Can you "top" mine?

Not sure if my desk drawers hold anything weird since I don't really get a chance to sit at my desk (also being a mom of two under 2)and moving all the time (military family), but I can guarantee that cleaning my purse would be like opening Pandora's Box.  I am simultaneously proud and embarrassed to admit I win the heaviest and/or strangest contents contest at all baby/wedding showers.  Um, yeah. Go me. :)

Editor's Note: Hey, Bridge! And now that you have a boy, you're going to pull Matchbox cars out of your purse right when you need them: like in meetings, at the check-out line at Target, or my favorite, while searching for my driver's license when I got pulled over for speeding!. :-)

For me, until very recently one black sock and one navy blue sock that I took off when I realized I got to the office and had two different color socks on!

Beth: Thanks for the laugh on a Tuesday morning! Most working moms could probably write a book on "wardrobe malfunctions."

You mean like getting to the office and finding that you have navy blue nylons under your black dress or skirt - and the lights were on - we just have funny lighting - at least that is what I would like to blame it on.

Thanks for sharing Cindy so we all had a good laugh and memory jog.

I don't think I have anything too strange in my desk drawers, but I do have two pacifiers and a Charlie and Lola DVD in my purse.

Cindy,

You crack me up!  My "most unusual" item in the business place happened at a meeting.  Awhile ago, I was on a Board of Directors for a non-profit.  The majority of the Board was comprised of 40- and 50-something males. I was digging in my briefcase for a document and came up with my daughter's purple burp cloth instead.  Luckily, it hadn't been "burped" on yet.
